All About Window Blinds

What today we call a window blind was conceptually invented long before to protect the interior by means of screening the windows. They serve the similar purpose as curtains but they also have varying thermal effects, like they can restrict unwanted heat of summer day light and at the same time retain the warmth of the room during winter. Thus they play an apparent role in controlling the temperature of the room. The basic function of a window blind is to make privacy or create an obstacle to the viewers, which is why it is called a window blind in the first place.

There are numerous types of blinds, such as the, mini blinds, macro blinds, pleated blinds, honeycomb blinds etc. named after their various structures and materials used.

Based on the material used there are several types of popular window blinds which include bamboo blinds, patio blinds, fabric vertical blinds, vinyl mini blinds, cheap wood blinds.

Largely there are two types of distributions of the strips made up in the blinds, the vertical and horizontal. The actual mechanism to unveil the blinds lies on the structural distribution of the slats, i.e. whether they are horizontal or vertically placed.

Mainly the room darkening blinds have a horizontal distribution of slats. They are designated to swivel on their terminal swathe that can be a tape or cord, to be opened but still covering the window and keeping the privacy of the room as well. Their usage is also can be seen in the patio blinds from the very earlier edges of Mughals and Maharajas.

In the other type of window blinds the slats hang vertically from its terminal edge. These types are largely known as track blinds. The large long slats hang vertically from one end of cords. They usually do not cover the windows while being opened. The vinyl mini blinds show another type of slat distribution and structure. The slats here are much narrow than regular blinds and more in number to cover up the entire window. They can be opened and closed by pulling and releasing the rod or strings by which the slats remain held with.

Today the creative minds have made a numerous variety of blinds which can be made up of various materials, and designed in a number of ways which actually determine the name with which the blind will come to the market. The bamboo blinds or the cheap wood blinds were so named when the bamboo wedges or inferior wooden twigs were chosen to made up the slats. But the most primitive and inexpensive blinds of the earlier 18th century were the hand made fabric vertical blinds, made of heavy cloths ornamented with earthen vibrant colors.

The window blinds give an ethnic touch to an edifice with a faint traditional stroke.
